9) ¿ENTONCES SE PUEDE HABLAR DE FÚTBOL Y POLÍTICA? / THEN, CAN WE SPEAK ABOUT FOOTBALL AND POLITIC?

9) Then, can we speak about football and politic?

Almost every president of a country says that they are fans of a team or about football in general. It looks to be a necessity in their speeches. So for example we know that: Tony Blair is a supporter of Newcastle , at the beginning Vladimir Putin said that he was a supporter of the Zenith of Petersburg and when he was remembered that the CSKA is a club with a lot of tradition, he quickly answered: I am a supporter of all Russian clubs .
About Berlusconi we all know his dedication to Milan. José Sócrates is fan of Benfica and he is visiting assiduously Da Luz’s stadium. José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero is supporter of Barcelona and is fan of Ponferradina .And it is very frequently to see the Brazilian’s President, Lula Da Silva encouraging the Corinthians.
To the contrary it is very rare that football players talk about politics. (To be continued…)

8) ¿EL FÚTBOL QUE REPRESENTA CULTURAL Y SOCIALMENTE? / WHAT DOES FOOTBALL REPRESENT CULTURALLY AND SOCIALLY?

8) What does football represent culturally and socially?

Reading the broadcast media, we can see that the best seller newspaper in Spain is a sports newspaper and all of its pages more than 60% are about football. Almost everyone is involved in football. The owner of a luxury car dealership, supervising his company, was amazed saying that on Mondays there were sold more cars if the team of the city where the headquarters were of the different dealership had won, if not sales resented all week. All doctors on call can attest it: when there is a football match, the number of emergencies is significantly lower than when there is another televised event.

We can speak about football from different ideologies and points of view, as journalistic, mythological, sociological, philosophical, business, treating the players sometimes as heroes, the fans in a religious way, highlighting as feats and myths sport events which were epic in its results, leaving in the memory of all unforgettable memories.

I wonder if football besides being a sport, a game or a business, would not  be, due to the interest which it arouse, a group and cultural paradigm: a place from where you can study any social phenomenon, a great little laboratory which reproduce each game (only in Spain a million games are played a year and there are 700,000 federated) any phenomenon to study, some examples are: amending labor laws, different economic movements, health criteria, policies, immigration, racism, corporate businesses, educational surveys ...

So any political facet, sporting, cultural, health, economic, social, human can be represented in football, serving as a research, from which to collect data, perform readings of reality and the necessary corrections, which can be exported to other social areas.

Football is a group and culture paradigm, in this sense, it can be effectively and microorganism easily reproducible of any study about groups, we know that groups are known as producing machines which produce people who have desires. What is possible for a human, it is possible in humanity, for the person who is able to build it. (To be continued…)

FOOTBALL ( SOCCER ) STORIES VII

What did that football was spread worldwide in a very few years, to all social classes, in every continent, being practiced for millions of people, in every place, on different surfaces and in every language?

Centuries later mathematics produced the natural number and physics spread formulas (taking the formal vacuum from the geometrical proportion) the machine and mass production were invented and we went from feudalism to capitalism.
As well from 1845 to 1900 it would have to produce another two Scientifics facts: the birth of Marxism and Psychoanalysis which revolutionized the workplace, political economy, health, education, art, sport and dreams. Two scientific theories that subverted the thought and collaborated in the diffusion of goods and culture (football is and example) thanks to the great industrial and commercial expansion which began in Britain.

What is wanted are wishes and not the languages but the way of using the language which allows the transmission and diffusion of all human, as well it is not the ball if not it is the game which invents and produces the toy.

The first international match played with a score of eleven against eleven, in which one is aware (written information) was in March 11th, 1870 between England and Scotland.

There is a history which is always written by the victors. Great athletes have spoken of football as a game, a passion. "Football can get what bullets cannot." "Football is not a matter of life or death, but something more important." "Football is something artistic and requires a poetic soul"."Football is bread for today and hungers for tomorrow, so I say to young people grab the books they do not bite." Spoken phrases by great players, allow us to think along with poetry (as history and instrument of knowledge) Football Stories displaying different questions. (To be continued…)

HISTORIAS DEL FÚTBOL I / FOOTBALL ( SOCCER ) STORIES

HISTORIAS DEL FÚTBOL I

FOOTBALL (SOCCER) STORIES I

The practice of football can be found in very many different cultures. According to FIFA, the modern game of football as we know it today was a British innovation in the second half of the nineteenth century.

There were ball games before football with different rules from city-to-city. Graphic evidence proves the existence of antiquated games centered upon the use of a spherical ball.

People all across the globe could claim the paternity of football.

However it was in the fall of 1863 when sports newspaper Bell’s Life suggested a meeting which took place among representatives of different public schools where people were practicing ball games with different rules (a mixture of rugby and football). The meeting was set in order to establish a universal code of football rules.

Throughout history we have learned: the rules of the game are the game. The regulations can be read and the sport can be spread because it is written. In this way, representatives from six schools gathered in Cambridge and the majority was in favor of dribbling in place of the rugby version, deciding to prohibit some moves from the latter such as kicking the shins of your opponent and tripping your adversary in order to gain possession of the ball. The representatives from the rugby school withdrew from the meeting. A few months later the Federation of English Football Clubs was founded in London. The goal was; still, to unify a code for football (a single set of rules for a single game). (To be continued…)
